One Highlands youngster shares her thoughts in this letter to the editor:
'The planet belongs to everyone'
Climate change is the biggest threat to our society and is likely to have a dramatic effect on my life in the future.
The Intergovernmental panel on climate change said this recently "human-made effects are extremely likely to have been the dominant cause of the observed global warming since the mid-20th century" .
They also say "continued emission of greenhouse gases will cause further warming and long-lasting changes in all components of the climate system, increasing the likelihood of severe, pervasive and irreversible impacts for people and ecosystems."
With this in mind I would like to show my support towards changing our climate laws.
The Uniting Church is supporting these strikes, if they can do it, I can do it.
For the next five years I can not vote, I can not force change on the government in this way.
This is my power, protesting against a government that refuses to listen to what we the kids of today care about.
This planet belongs to everyone and most of all it is us that will be around much longer to deal with the effects inaction on climate will have on our future.
I hope you support my stance and decision to strike from school today.
