Mayor Duncan Gair said a formal discussion on official council's position has not been planned at this stage.
"Have we got anything on the agenda? No. Could we have a briefing session? I will suggest this," Mayor Gair said.
He said councillors required more information and needed to determine their positions on the matter.
Mayor Gair said it could take several weeks for the discussion to be put on the agenda, due to other scheduled items.
Across Australia, 45 councils have declared a climate emergency.
Bega Valley Shire Council became the latest council to make the declaration on August 28.
