A man will appear in court today over the alleged sexual abuse of a young girl he met through social media.

Detectives from the State Crime Command's Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad commenced an investigation in June 2019, following reports a 13-year-old girl was sexually assaulted after meeting up with a man she met online.
Following extensive inquiries, detectives arrested a 20-year-old man at a home at Moss Vale about 9.40am on Thursday, August 29.
Shortly after the arrest, a search warrant was executed at the home and a number of items were seized.
The man was taken to Moss Vale Police Station and charged with procure child under 14 years for unlawful sexual activity, three counts of have sexual intercourse with person aged 10 to 14, and three counts of indecent assault person under 16.
Police will allege in court that the pair met online when the girl was aged 12, before meeting in person on a number of occasions between June and December 2018 in the Southern Highlands.
During those meetings, it's alleged the man sexually and indecently assaulted her.

He was refused bail to appear at Moss Vale Local Court on Friday, August 30.
The Child Abuse and Sex Crimes Squad is comprised of detectives who are specially trained to investigate matters against children and adults, including sexual assault, serious physical abuse, and extreme cases of neglect.
