Gang Gajang will be hitting the road on their Surfing Round The World tour and dedicating it to the surfers and free spirits of the world.
Renowned for their perennial Sounds Of Then (This is Australia), before this Australian, cultural ear bud delight hit the airwaves, vocalist and guitarist Mark Callaghan built his musical chops on a diet of punk rock and architecture.

"The Saints made me think to myself, I want to do that," Callaghan said.
"The Sex Pistols, The Ramones and The Clash. I was just a young pup, my mates and I were studying architecture at Queensland Uni Campus.
"The Campus had its own radio station called 4-ZZZ and we used to hear those bands on the programs and think they were awesome. The big lesson from all those bands was that you didn't have to be a particularly great musician to form a band.
"We thought why don't we do that. That was the beginning of the Riptides."
Callaghan's first band Riptides came to Sydney in the early 80s seeking what all aspiring musicians want, recognition and support. Little did he know the Riptides may not last, but these were the first steps in developing a band that would stand the test of time.
"We were working with a record producer who had just come out of being the drummer for The Angels," Callaghan said.
"His name was Graham "Buzz" Bidstrup. Buzz and I became mates when he was producing stuff for the Riptides. We worked together on an ABC show called 'Sweet and Sour'. Through that we began to write songs and we formed a band.
"Buzz rang up a mate of his, Chris Bailey. He was also from The Angels and he joined up. We rehearsed at Geoffrey Stapleton's studio and before he knew it we had talked him into joining (laughs). Finally we put it all together with a guitarist Robbie James.
"After all these years, it's the same guys, the only one missing is Chris."
Chris Bailey sadly passed away battling cancer in 2013. Before he left us all with his amazing discography of music, he produced one final session with Gang Gajang and those sessions will forever be cherished.
"It was such a special session at Fresh Water Beach," Callaghan said.
"Our single Surfing Round the World was created in those sessions and it was recorded at the Surf Life Saving Club there. Mick Wordly brought over his mobile rig from Adelaide. We recorded two things there and that's how Surfing Round the World the song came to be."
On the Surfing Round The World tour Gang Gajang will be exploring new and uncharted musical territory.
"We'll only be exclusively playing music from our new alt-fusion jazz album (laughs). Just joking."
"We'll play old songs and new. All the hits will be played. We do have some newer songs that we'll play. We're doing something we haven't done before and that's delve into our family tree.
"All the guys come from different bands so we'll pay homage and do some covers of our other bands."
After all these years, it's the same guys, the only one missing is Chris.
- Mark Callaghan
The previous and side bands that the members of Gang Gajang have participated in, along with the band itself, have helped shape Australian music and newer artists. The respect is reciprocal from Callaghan.
"I'm in awe of some of the younger artists of today," Callaghan said.
"The truth is, the kids coming up can play better than we could. They're learning earlier and the skills they develop recording their own music with their home setups, it means their songwriting skills are really advanced for their age.
"They inspire me just as much as the music I grew up on."
Gang Gajang will be performing at the Bowral Bowling Club on Saturday, September 14. This will be the first time they've played there and it's exciting new ground.
"I haven't played at the Bowral Bowling Club before," Callaghan said.
"I know they've been putting on live music there now which is great. I've spent many an afternoon enjoying a game of cricket at Bradman Oval around the corner, so I'm really looking forward to it.
"I hope all my mates come down, it'll be fun."
