In 2010 the Department of Health and Ageing, as it was known then, estimated that the quantity of employees in the Aged Care sector would have to increase between two to three times to cater for the growing number of aged care residents.
The disability sector has had similar predictions with concerns relating to the National Disability Scheme (NDIS) having a $7 billion gap in funding due to a much higher rate of children accessing the scheme. One report predicted that the shortage of workers would probably result in a reduction of quality standards and/or increasing costs.
At Interchange Australia, we work hard to maintain adequate levels of our workforce and maintain our high standard of service provision. We are always on the lookout for additional staff who fit our criteria of effective, professional and suitably trained employees.
We have been very fortunate to have some excellent support workers with additional skills in areas such as singing, music, art, fitness and drama join us recently. This had provided our clients with some new opportunities.
One of our clients now runs his own radio program with the guidance of a support worker who has experience in the radio industry.
Another client is being mentored by a support worker who is an accomplished singer, assisting the client to achieve her dream of becoming a lead singer in a band.
Our support workers are enthusiastic in assisting the clients to achieve their goals. They have indicated how much they love being a part of the journey of development and watching the progress and opportunities available within Interchange Australia.
If you know someone who has an exceptional work ethic and is keen to pursue a career in support work, please call 1300 112 334.
