General manager for the Southern Highlands Hospice Group Carisa Wells said that the building was not going ahead in that location but the plans instead will be transferred to another location.

"The board has made this decision," she said.

"The complexity of the situation was too much especially in regards to the basement car park.

A Development Application for the site at 104-106 Bowral Street, Bowral was approved in October 2018.

"However we are planing to provide palliative care services before the site is built."

Chair of the board of the Southern Highlands Community Hospice Peter Fletcher said that board remained committed to delivering the hospice.

"The Board has spent the first half of the year understanding from consultants the ramifications of the conditions to the development approval. That process has provided us with invaluable information and experience that will inform our future approach to hospice and associated services to ensure a viable commercial model moving forward," he said.

One service that is already being provided is the Biography Service, where volunteers record, transcribe and present the patient and families a bound book featuring important life stories from the patient.

"We are working with volunteers from Sacred Heart Hospice and already have one biography starting here," Carisa said.

"The biography service provides a therapeutic and spiritual purpose and is a legacy of the person."

A new location is yet to be released.
