The Club was chartered in 1994 and over the years has grown to a combined membership of some 70 male and female members.
It was with pleasure and gratitude that during our 25th birthday celebrations, members elected to honor a long-standing member with a Life Membership Award.
Exeter resident Terry Gripper has been a member of the Club for almost 20 years and it was recognized for his outstanding contribution to the Moss Vale Combined Probus Club.
"I am greatly appreciative of this award," he said.
"It's one of the great awards in my life.
Terry and his wife Jillian joined the Moss Vale combined Probus club in November 1999 after moving to the Southern Highlands from Concord. Terry has been the president of the Probus club three times, as well as the secretary and is currently involved in organising activities.
"We were previously involved in the Probus club in Concord and we joined down here," he said.
"I'm 83 years old and I still enjoy life."
Terry's advice for anyone who wants to get involved is to come along to a meeting and meet new friends.
"It's always a little bit of business first and then we have a speaker. The speaker is always interesting and the meeting is good fun.
"There's a good sense of involvement."
The Club meets at 10 am on the third Wednesday of each month at the Connect Christian Church Hall, Spring Street, Moss Vale and visitors are always welcome to share in the Probus philosophy of Fellowship, Friendship and Fun. The focus of the Club is social interaction between members and this is facilitated by monthly outings and activities.
These have in the past included day trips to facilities such as Lucas Heights Nuclear Reactor to simpler trips to Sydney by train or coach, local points of interest, and even a cruise to New Zealand and everything in between. A trip to Norfolk Island in November has been organized. As well as social contact at meetings, a guest speaker is a feature of the monthly program.
