Wingecarribee Shire Council is encouraging local community groups to apply for funding as part of the NSW Government's Stronger Country Communities Fund (SCCF).

Round Three of the Stronger Communities Fund was launched by the Deputy Premier John Barilaro on 1 July 2019 making an additional $100 million available for community projects across regional NSW.
Wingecarribee Shire Mayor Duncan Gair said the funding announcement provided a great opportunity for Highlands-based community groups.
"The first two rounds of funding saw the Southern Highlands secure substantial monies for projects of Shire-wide significance," he said.
Previous local projects funded via the SCCF include the Stephens Park playing fields drainage project in Bowral, the Berrima Marketplace all abilities playground and the Bundanoon Skate Park. In 2018 the Bowral Blacks Rugby Club also received funding to assist in the redevelopment of the multi-purpose Eridge Park sports facility.
"The State Government is to be commended on making these funds available and ensuring regional New South Wales continues to provide first-class amenities for its citizens to enjoy," Mayor Gair said.
One of the key objectives of this current round of funding is that at least 50 per cent of funds will be allocated to projects supporting young people.
"With the emphasis this round on projects for our youth and young people, I can't stress enough the importance of local groups applying for funding," the Mayor said.
"But that shouldn't exclude any other community groups from applying should they believe they have a worthy project too."
Changes to Round Three criteria include extending the delivery time to three years allowing more time for applicants to complete the projects.
"My final piece of advice would be for any applicants to contact Council well in advance to assess if their project fits the bill," Mayor Gair added.
"Ideally we'd love to hear from any interested parties by mid-August at the latest."
"This then allows applicants to have a chat with Council staff who can then discuss the suitability of the project and the necessary criteria."
Round Three funding applications close on Friday 27 September 2019.
