However this need is greater for people who are homeless and living on the poverty line.
A Highlands family is doing their best to alleviate this discomfort for as many people as possible.
Nine-year-old Luca Fidler and his friend Kaleb Russell distributed donations at Martin Place in Sydney on Saturday.
This included sleeping bags, blankets, toiletry kits and food.
Donations have been collected from individuals and businesses since the beginning of June.
Luca's mother Simona Angeli said it was a "wonderful" experience to help those less fortunate.
"The atmosphere was beautiful. It was really warm, nice and they were feeling important," she said.
"We're extremely grateful it went really well. There were lots of new people [collecting donations].
"We definitely knew they were going to be warm and their bellies were full."
This is not the first time the family has distributed blankets and sleeping bags to people who are homeless.
The family does conducts donation drives every three months.
Ms Angeli said there were many ways to assist people experiencing homelessness.
"As I always say, acknowledge them. If you don't know what to do join a group of your choice," she said.
"If you see someone, especially all the time, create a relationship if they want one. Take them for a coffee. It's not about buying the coffee, it's spending time with them. Make them feel respected and make them feel like normal people like to feel.
"They're not different from anyone else, they're a human being. They just had something go wrong in their life and they can't get up."
The rate of homelessness in Australia has increased 4.6 per cent over the last five years, according to the latest Census of Population and Housing data.
Estimates reveal more than 116,000 people were experiencing homelessness in Australia on Census night, representing 50 homeless persons for every 10,000 people.
The homelessness rate rose by 27 per cent in New South Wales, and most of the increase in homelessness nationally was reflected in persons living in 'severely' crowded dwellings.
Younger and older Australians have also emerged as groups experiencing increasing homelessness in Australia.
