Debbie Skinner joined the army of volunteers at the animal shelter five years ago and hasn't looked back.
"It was the best thing I ever did," Debbie said.
"Some people have been walking [the dogs] for 20 years."
Debbie adopted her dog, Jock, from Wingecarribee Animal Shelter 12 years ago when she was a nurse in Sydney.
When Debbie moved to the Southern Highlands she enlisted at the shelter.
"[Volunteering is] one way to give back," Debbie said.
"I've got a passion for dogs.
"There are hardcore people who walk every day."
Debbie said she had met people from all walks of life at the shelter.
"Yesterday four of us walked one dog," Debbie said and laughed.
"Some days there are more dogs than walkers."
The animal lover walks four to five times a week.
"The dogs just love getting out," Debbie said.
"We walk in and they are barking and excited to see us."
The volunteers have three different walking tracks for their morning strolls.
The four-legged friends encounter cows, rabbits and other animals on their morning adventures.
"They love all the smells and sniffing around," Debbie said.
