On May 7 and 8 a team of agriculture students from Chevalier College attended the beef industry event at Nowra Showground.
Schools from Narooma, Queanbeyan, Moss Vale and others from the south coast region participated in the event run by the South Coast Beef Producers Association.
The steer spectacular involved three main categories over a two-day program: a led steer championship, a steer project report presentation and, a carcass judging and championship.
Cadfor Stud, near Crookwell, partnered with Chevalier College and provided two Murray Grey steers for the competition.
On the first day students attended a full program of activities related to the beef industry, with day two focused competitions.
The Chevalier College team competed in several events and was named champion school overall.
The students took out the following awards:
- Silver Medal: Steer Project Report (on the steers' progress over 70 days)
- Junior Judging Seniors: 1st, 2nd and 3rd (Darcy Howard, Tessa Good and Kaelan Read)
- Champion Junior Judge: Darcy Howard
- Paraders: 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and Highly Commended in different age groups
- Champion School Parader: Casey Halliday
- Photographic Competition: Equal 1st Place - Tessa Good
- Led Steer: 1st and 3rd Place
- Reserve Champion Steer: Steer 120 "Perfect Storm"
- Carcass: Gold Medal - Steer 120
- Champion Middle Weight Carcass: Steer 120
- Champion Carcass: Steer 120
- Champion School Overall
The students and teachers were thrilled all their hard work and efforts had reaped such an array of awards, and thanked Cadfor Stud for their contribution.
