Fatality Free Friday is a national awareness campaign which aims to reduce road deaths to zero.

According to the Australian Road Safety Foundation, just one Fatality Free Friday would equate to more than five lives saved across the nation and countless families and loved ones spared the consequences.

Council's road safety officer Melanie Lausz said although the event targeted a single day, the campaign aims for long-term benefits through raised safety awareness, considerate road use and changed driver behaviour.

"We're asking drivers to take the road safety pledge and promise to always drive safely," she said.

"Driving safely is being fit to drive, staying focused and driving to the condition of the road."

"Start a road safety conversation with loved ones and don't be afraid to speak up if someone's driving makes you feel unsafe," she continued.

As part of the campaign, drivers can make their pledge public at the Service NSW Mittagong Service Centre on Friday, May 31 between 10am and 1.30pm.

The Mittagong Service Centre is located at 205 Old Hume Highway in Mittagong.

Fatality Free Friday is a national initiative of the Australian Road Safety Foundation and Australia's largest community-based road safety campaign.
