My priorities for the Southern Highlands include increasing access to telecommunications infrastructure (mobile and NBN), funding injections for local TAFEs (Moss Vale and Goulburn), and funding for repair of local roads. I would work closely with Steven Jones MP in this regard.
What can you do that your opponents can't?
Relate to voters. I'm living the life their living, I have three little children, I work full-time, I fear for our climate future and their future, and I expect politicians to be accountable and relatable. I can also Irish dance!
What will you do for the roads?
I will focus put on the roads in the same way that I have with the north end of Hume. For the North end of Hume, Stephen Jones MP and I have already committed $105 million and we would be looking to extend this funding into the Southern Highlands.
What are you priorities for health services?
In line with Labor's Medicare Cancer Plan my priority would be to ensure access to diagnostics and related services so that the reality of our 'no out or pockets plan for cancer' can be implemented. An elected Labor Government will see an increase in hospital funding in the millions above what the Liberals consider the Southern Highlands deserves.
What are your priorities in terms of development and infrastructure?
Rail is certainly a priority, as the service needs to have far higher utility than it does. It is ridiculous that commuters have to drive to Macarthur to get to work. Labor is committed to the nation-building infrastructure Australia needs. We will work with state and territory governments to get projects up and running. We will create thousands of jobs nationally with new work in every state and territory, and I would see infrastructure investment delivered to Hume.
What are your priorities on education and tertiary education ?
Labor will deliver an extra $14 billion for public schools over the next decade, with an extra $3.3 billion flowing in the first three school years alone. $21m of this funding will be spent in the Hume electorate. We will also invest in TAFE to ensure quality vocational education can be delivered across the country and our region including Moss Vale and Goulburn TAFEs. An elected Labor Government will also uncap University places and provide.
