Royal Society
Concern about the possible extinction of many plants and animals is the hot topic at the next Royal Society lecture. National co-ordinator of the Australian Seed Bank Partnership Damian Wrigley will speak at the Southern Highlands Royal Society branch event on May 16. Mr Wrigley provides support to the Council of Heads of the Australian Botanic Gardens to deliver better outcomes for plant conservation throughout Australia. Since 2017 he has been Australia's national focal point for the global strategy for plant conservation, liaising with international botanical and plant conservation communities. His lecture ties in with the recent scientific report by the United Nations that indicates that one million species of plants and animals are at risk of extinction within decades. The Royal Society presentation will be held at Mittagong RSL Club in the Joadja/Nattai rooms on the first floor from 6.30pm. Doors open at 6pm. Cost is $10 for non member, $5 for members and teachers and students are free. Following the lecture there will be a dinner with the speaker which is open to all.
