A precedent already set
I read in the Southern Highlands News (April 26) that a above DA for commercial premises, cafe and residential apartments at 421 to 425 Bong Bong Street was refused by council and had to laugh at some of the quotes from Mayor Gair. This is one of the dumbest decisions I've ever seen this council take. While mayor Gair suggests council doesn't want to set a precedent, the fact is they already have.

When the Dirty Janes mixed use project was approved with 25 car spaces, a shortfall to the DCP requirements of more than 70, and the Grand Hotel redevelopment was approved with 20 spaces, a shortfall of more than 70 as well, the council set the precedent.
This is a fantastic development concept on a site that has remained vacant for too long and now we miss out on the opportunity for employment and additional small business opportunities because some councillors have no foresight. This council definitely does not represent the views of most residents. I hope Mr and Mrs Todorcevski persevere - the community support for this project is huge.

'Folau should be applauded'
The Israel Folau debate has been a fascinating spectacle to all of use who have had an interest to follow it either on mainstream or social media.
As a born-again Christian for more than 40 years, I have always believed that the Bible is "God's Word" to all mankind and therefore it is to be revered and trusted.
Folau, is obviously, a man of his religious convictions, and as such, should not be denigrated, reviled, ostracized or slandered, just because he quoted correctly from what is written in the Bible.
There are those who have incorrectly pointed their finger of blame at Folau, when all he did was quote from 1 Corinthians 5, verses 9 and 10. Verse 11 says "And such were some of you, but you were washed, sanctified and justified." It is obvious that they had repented of their sin and turned away from that type of lifestyle.
We have a choice. We either accept that what we read within the pages of the Holy Bible are correct, and therefore a help in the way we conduct ourselves, or we reject what we read, because it does not approve of the way we live our lives. Unfortunately we live in a society that rejects what the Bible says.
Our society is becoming increasingly narcissistic, self-indulgent and anti-christian. We reject the words of the Bible, at our peril. We even have Christians dragged into our Australian courts and being prosecuted for their religious beliefs. Israel Folau should be applauded and respected for standing up for his religious beliefs.
