We aim to deliver a more agile service, be more visible in community, and build even stronger partnerships with our Parishes in the area.
- Teresa Clark
The closure of Anglicare's Moss Vale office has enabled the charity to go mobile and assist a broader range of the Southern Highlands community.
The Mobile Community Pantry has been in operation for three years.
The charity-based initiative has grown from an initial pilot program in 2016 with one van, and ten sites, to a fleet of four vehicles who service over 45 communities every fortnight.
For a $10 contribution, community members can select a bag of groceries worth between $50 and $60 retail value.
Anglicare's head of food and financial assistance, Teresa Clark, is pleased with the success of the mobile pantry.
"With the knowledge that the service will be available each fortnight, [disadvantaged members of the community] will then have money left in their budget to put towards other costs," Ms Clark said.
The mobile pantry is run from Anglican churches, with a team of volunteers ready to provide a friendly face, a cup of tea and a chat.
Anglicare now has two sites operating in the Southern Highlands, one in Mittagong and one in Moss Vale.
"The closure of office in Moss Vale now means that our staff and volunteers will be able to provide services, and meet with people in financial crisis alongside the Mobile Community Pantry van, as well as other community locations throughout the Highlands," Ms Clark said.
"We aim to deliver a more agile service, be more visible in community, and build even stronger partnerships with our parishes in the area."
The dates and times for the Mobile Community Pantry are as follows:
Friday April 26 from 10.30-11.30am and every fortnight thereafter at St Stephens Anglican Church on the corner of Main street and Station street in Mittagong.
Friday May 3 from 1 to 2pm and every fortnight thereafter at St. John's Anglican Church on the corner of Browley street and Waite street in Moss Vale.
