"Unfortunately cancer will affect most people at some stage during their life, whether it be a family member, friend, work colleague or someone you may have only met a couple of times," Lockett said.
"We've come such a long way in the fight to cure cancer but there is a lot more that still needs to be done. We all need to do everything possible to hopefully one day find a cure to cancer."
In training for this gargantuan ride, Lockett isn't undertaking any special training regime, he's doing what he'll be doing for 1300 kilometers and that's riding.
"I'm just staying on the bike as much as possible and riding around the area," Lockett said.
"There's no overthinking it, just trying to keep the fitness up and get as much experience on the bike as possible."
Whilst Lockett will be raising money for a great cause, along the way he'll be experiencing the beauty of regional Australia and those two things combined have him excited for the ride.
"Along the way, It'll be great getting out there, meeting the locals and seeing the land," Lockett said.
"We'll be starting in Sydney then going to Kiama, over to Goulburn, through Canberra and Jindabyne, Kariong and Beechworth, we'll be crisscrossing over the place. It'll be a great experience."
With an original goal of raising $12,000, Lockett has smashed that target and is now aiming higher.
"We had a great day of fund raising at the Bowral Blacks Rugby Club," Lockett said.
"We've surpassed our original target and reassessed the final goal amount.
"We are now aiming for $20,000 to see if we can raise some more money in these final weeks for cancer research."
Lockett will begin his ride, May 3 and finish on May 11. He has raised $13,185.00 so far.
