Career Advisers Southern Highlands (CASH), which includes counsellors from high schools, TAFE NSW and the University of Wollongong Southern Highlands, connected with business on their fourth Industry Tour recently.
The tour was organised by University of Wollongong (UOW) Southern Highlands campus career consultant Tania Goodman who convenes CASH which meets each school term.
"The tour provides insight into the recruitment needs of employers, so career advisors have current information on career pathways and are better placed to recommend students for employment, internship and work experience opportunities," Mrs Goodman said.
This year's tour took place in Goulburn and included the NSW Police Academy, Department of Family and Community Services, Corrective Services NSW Department of Justice and Divall's Earthmoving and Bulk Haulage.
The group heard direct from employers about the qualities they seek in recruiting staff.
"We were also able to discuss providing the right preparation and training for our students," Mrs Goodman said.
The tour was made possible through the support of Graham Marcolin and Tammy Marr of McDonald's Sutton Forest in providing a minibus, driven by Moss Vale High School career advisor Phil Warwick.
