Evening CWA
Moss Vale Evening CWA will hold its first evening meeting on April 17. Come along at 5.30pm for a cuppa with the meeting to begin at 6pm. This will be held at the Community Hall, Queen Street, Moss Vale. Royal Society
Popular lecturer Dr Ken McCracken will be back to share his scientific expertise with guests at the next Royal Society presentation on April 18. The topic 'Tales of an itinerant scientist' will look at highlights of Dr McCracken's 65 year career in space research, astronomy and the mineral industry. The presentation will begin at 6.30pm in the Carrington Room of the Mittagong RSL. Doors will open at 6pm. Entry is $10 for no members, $5 for members and free for teachers and students. Can Assist fundraiser
Tickets are now on sale for the next major fundraising event for Can Assist. This will take the form of a Sunday lunch at Bowral Golf Club on May 5 from midday. Guest speaker will be 'the laughter master' Anthony Ackroyd. Tickets are $75 per person which includes a two course lunch, pre-lunch drinks and nibbles, tea and coffee. All funds raised will go to Can Assist which supports people with diagnosed with cancer in the Southern Highlands and their families. Morning tea and support
Every Friday morning between 10am and midday the foyer of the Mittagong Anglican Church is open to the public for free morning tea. The church's professional barista knows how to make one of the best coffees in town. A professional counsellor offering free support to those who might want to talk privately is also available. Come and join the group and make new friends in a relaxed and warm environment. St. Stephens Church is on the corner of Station and Main Streets and has been reaching out to the community for more than 140 years.
Toastmasters
The Southern Highlands Toastmasters is held on the second and fourth Monday of each month at Mittagong RSL Club from 7.30pm. Toastmasters provides an opportunity for people to learn how to speak in public in a relaxed environment. Details: Colin Emerson on 0429 389 744.
Bereavement support
The Southern Highlands Bereavement Care Service Suicide Bereavement Support Group is held on the first Tuesday of each month. This is facilitated by bereavement counsellors Donna and Jo-Anne. This group will be ongoing and held from 6.30pm to 8.00pm each month in Bowral. If you are living with grief after the suicide death of a family member or friend, you are encouraged to come along to the group. Meetings are held at in Bowral at a location yet to be advised. Folk dance
Do you enjoy dancing or would you like to learn to dance? Here's a great opportunity not to be missed. Dance your way around the world with folk dances taught in easy steps. Have you ever wanted to do Zorba, Tarantella or a gentle Hora from Romania or Israel? Come on Thursdays 10.30-11.30am to Bowral Presbyterian Church hall, Bendooley St, Bowral. Tai Chi
Test you strength and agility with Tai Chi classes held at the Mittagong Senior's Club located next to the Mittagong Library. Classes are held each Tuesday from 1pm.
Seniors' Club
Mittagong Seniors' Club meets each Tuesday and Thursday from 9am to 2.30pm at the Community Centre in Queen Street, Mittagong. Come for morning tea at 10am to learn more. Activities include craft, games, ukulele and various outings.
Gentle exercise
A program offering gentle exercise at a gentle pace with a focus on mobility, physical and mental stimulation is available each Thursday at the Bowral Presbyterian Church hall in Bendooley Street, Bowral. Classes are from 11.45am-12.30pm. Details: Margaret 0466 166 866 or 4861 2294.
