The Mittagong Library energy efficiency upgrade project will see the installation of a new air conditioning system, LED lighting and new building insulation to efficiently light, heat and cool the heritage listed sandstone building.
The project is funded by grant monies secured through the NSW Government's Heritage Near Me program.
To facilitate the project, the facility will close temporarily between Monday, April 22 and Monday, May 13.
Council's library services coordinator Andrew White said that close to 165,000 visits were made to a Wingecarribee Public Libraries branch in the last financial year.
"Our libraries are an essential part of our community and it's important that we provide a comfortable, inviting and accessible environment for everyone," Mr White said.
Throughout the closure, the Wingecarribee Mobile Library will visit the Queen Street site every Wednesday and Friday from 10am to 4.30pm.
"While the mobile library has a range of books for patrons to browse and borrow, we recommend patrons use the online catalogue to request specific books that can be collected from the mobile library," Mr White said..
The popular Preschool Story Time program will continue each Thursday from 10.45am at the Girl Guides Hall, located adjacent to the library at 10 Albert Street in Mittagong.
During the temporary closure a designated study area will also be built and a fresh coat of paint applied to the interior in heritage appropriate colours.
Council thanks residents in advance for their cooperation and apologises for any temporary inconvenience.
Mittagong Branch Library is located on Queen Street Mittagong.
