A beautiful sunny day, Bundanoon made way for the largest Scottish festival in the Southern Hemisphere, Brigadoon.
This year's Chieftain was the Governor of NSW, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC who was having a ball at Brigadoon.
Also at this year's Brigadoon festival was the CEO of the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Brigadier David Allfrey MBE who will bring the the Tattoo to Sydney in October.
I've had an amazing day. We watched the extraordinary display of 25 pipes and drum bands. It's just fantastic," he said.
"We should be so proud of [today], fantastic sunshine."
Wingecarribbee Shire Council mayor Duncan Gair said it was a great opportunity for the community and for the Southern Highlands and nothing but praise for the festival.
"I think this morning's ceremony was absolutely terrific, 25 pipe and drum bands and then to be greeted by the Governor of NSW really created a terrific atmosphere," he said.
"Brigadoon means a time of celebrations and a time of community gathering and for people to just enjoy the day."
There were plenty of games and competitions to keep everyone entertained. The oval saw plenty of kids and adults alike testing their strength, stamina and skill. The heavy-weight championship drew a number of spectators with Craig Manson being crowned as the champion for the consecutive year.
It was all eyes on the five competitors for the historical test of manhood, the lifting of the bundanoon stones. Defending champion Luke Reynolds narrowly lost to Scott Hall who had incurred a one second penalty, and was declared the new champion of the day.
This year's celebrations was also a significant day for mother-daughter duo Jen and Zoe who were both performing at Brigadoon together, Jen in the ACT Police force pipe and drums band and Zoe as a dancer. This was Jen's 22nd time performing at Brigadoon and Zoe's second time dancing.
Vice-President of the Bundanoon Highlands Gathering - who put together Brigadoon every year, Alaistair Saunders, said they were expecting more than 8000 people on the day.
Brigadoon will be back once more on April 4, 2020.
