Shadow minister for local government, Peter Primrose was at Bowral Central Library on March 14, 2019 to announce further funding for the libraries and local government.
"In the last Liberal and National budget, they cut funding by 17 per cent," he said.
"One of the big problems that councils are finding, is that they often can't pay to keep their library services running, particularly in rural and regional areas.
"We are announcing that we will double funding to the libraries and we will index it to the consumer price index. We are increasing funding by over $60 million.
"That's the difference of priorities between the Labor party and the Liberal and Nationals
Labor candidate for Wollondilly, Jo-Ann Davidson welcomed the latest funding announcement, saying "It's terrific and it means we can renew our libraries rather than them being rundown. So doubling the funding and having it indexed so it can continue, will be good for Bowral Library."
Also in attendance was Labor candidate for Goulburn, Ursula Stephens.
"What's so significant about this funding for the whole of Wingecarribee shire is that the mobile library services will be really supported by this because the additional funding committed by Labor includes things for mobile libraries, village libraries as well as technology support," she said.
"Indexing means that instead of funding being cut, its actually guaranteed funding for the future.
"It offers councils the opportunity to modernise their spaces too, and it will be a big investment right across.
"Libraries are a community hub."
