All southbound lanes are open on the Hume Motorway in Welby after an earlier car crash.
The diversion has been lifted.
Traffic in the area is returning to normal.
Update - 4pm:
One southbound lane is open after an earlier car crash on the Hume Highway at Welby.
The occupant of the car has been airlifted to hospital.
Traffic crews are working to open the second southbound lane.
There is currently about four and a half kilometres of traffic backed up on the highway.
Motorists are advised to allow additional travel time and exercise caution.

A single-vehicle crash has closed all southbound lanes on the Hume Highway.
At about 2.15pm on Sunday afternoon, a car crashed into a tree on the Hume Highway at Welby near the Old Hume Highway.
The crash has caused delays for motorists, with queues of up to four kilometres.
A helicopter and emergency services are in attendance.
Southbound lanes are closed while a helicopter lands.
Diversions are in place via the Old Hume Highway through Mittagong.
Motorists can take this route and rejoin the Hume Highway on the other side.
Drivers are asked to use the diversions and allow additional travel time.
