Liberal Candidate for Wollondilly, Nathaniel Smith said that a re-elected NSW Liberal Government will continue working hard on easing the community’s daily commute, so that everyone can have more time for things that are important like time with the family.
“If elected, I will be looking for opportunities to speed up public transport travel times, and ensure that people can get to work or access important services quicker without having to rely on their car.
"The NSW Government will investigate in a rapid bus service in different points in the Wingecarribee Southern Highlands and Wollondilly area to Macarthur and Campbelltown Station.
"This is something I'm very passionate about. Saving peoples time and travel, A lot of people from the electorate travel outside of the area to go to work or to go where they need to.
"Instead of getting up early to find a parking sport at Macarthur to get onto electrified rail, this will get people on comfortably and keep cars off of the roads."
NSW Minister for Roads, Maritime and Freight, Melinda Pavey, said the planning would look to build on similar services already operating in the region.
“NSW TrainLink has already begun a trial of new weekday return Goulburn-Sydney and Goulburn-Canberra coach services," Ms Pavey said.
"This study will look into the possibility of expanding these services and creating new park and ride options, so that commuters living in Wollondilly and Southern Highlands could better connect to the electric train network in Macarthur.
"We've increased service delivery by 55% down to here. But we see the pressure on Sydney, and we need to do more to encourage people to be able to live in communities such as this, with the ability to get to work in Sydney in a quick and efficient manner.
"It is a big feature of what we're doing as a state government. Most of the money that we're spending in Sydney is on public transport. We know we need to do better in moving people right across the Sydney network.
"This is apart of that movement of people. This is a beautiful area of the world where housing is still affordable and where you can have a lifestyle. We need to ensure that we keep improving connectivity and speed to jobs within the Sydney network.
New routes to be explored will include:
- Bargo, Picton and Wilton to Campbelltown
- Moss Vale, Bowral and Mittagong to Campbelltown
