The record turnout proved a major success, with workout events held indoors and outdoors and with many visitors seeking out information from the fitness, health and nutritional stalls at the event.
A total of $3000 in cash prizes as well as sponsor products were up for grabs during the contest which saw athletes compete in open and scaled divisions in workouts involving running, rowing, sled pulls, dead-lifts, burpees, pull-ups, wall ball throws and kettle bell swings.
A large number of Benton Crossfit Gym members helped run and judge the event, which was the fourth major competition Benton has hosted since it opened in the Highlands in 2012.
Benton CrossFit owner, Ben Garard, said the success of the ‘Battle of Benton’ last weekend paved the way for a second Battle of Benton event on Sunday September 8.
“It was so heartening to see so many people of all ages – both competitors and spectators – descend on our gym to celebrate the amazing capabilities of our minds and bodies and to aspire to be as healthy and fit as possible,” he said.
“Exercise is vital at any age and our aim at the event was to highlight its vital importance to our wellbeing.”
The main division winners at the Battle of Benton were:
- Maddie Sturt and Shane Ormerod, from Sydney, in the mixed pairs division
- Sisters Eleanor and Georgia Welsman, from Sydney, in the female pair division
- Nathen Stratton and Shane Nell from Sydney in the male pair division
