Bowral Junior Guides were recently forced to temporarily close due to leader shortages for their six to nine year olds.
“Unfortunately, we are short on leaders and adult helpers for our Junior Guides,” South Coast and Highlands Region Manager Kris Wyber said.
“We would love to be able to have the girls back as soon as possible but until we get some committed help this isn’t possible, we just hope that in the meantime we don’t lose numbers.”
The Bowral Girl Guides are seeking volunteer leaders and helpers for about two hours per week.
Guide leaders are friends, role models and mentors to youth members.
You do not require any guiding experience, just a positive and caring attitude.
Girl Guides aims to empower young people to become confident, self-respecting and responsible community members.
Unit leaders meet weekly with a group of girls at the Bowral Guide Hall and meetings run between 90 minutes and two hours.
During the meeting you will help members develop skills, positive values and confidence through fun activities.
You will be supported by other leaders in the district and a region manager.
Becoming a leader involves becoming a member and participating in training in emergency first aid and other leadership skills.
Girl Guides offers regular training by a qualified team and there are no out-of-pocket costs.
Leaders report they have increased their all-round confidence and skills, experienced the joy of helping youth members grow, made lifelong friendships and had lots of fun.
Ex-guides are welcome to apply but no experience is necessary.
A working with children check will be required.
