The St Vincent de Paul society has encouraged families undergoing hardship to reach out for assistance.
As part of the Vinnies Drought Appeal both financial and emotional support is being offered to people struggling with drought.
St Vincent de Paul Southern Highlands regional president, Peter Doris, has expressed hope that more farmers will seek help.
“Citizens of NSW and the Southern Highlands have shown that they feel deeply for what our farmers are going through as a result of this unprecedented drought, and have generously rallied behind them to offer support through donations,” he said.
“In our region alone, more than $120,000 has been raised to assist local farmers, and while thousands of dollars in assistance has been provided to date, there are still many experiencing the impacts of the drought who are not yet reaching out for the help they need.
“We’d like to support as many local farmers impacted by the drought as possible, and encourage anyone who could benefit from a listening ear and financial support to contact us for help today.”
Vinnies has offered financial assistance to help pay for groceries, household utility bills, mortgage and rates installments, water cartage, vehicle registrations and school costs. As well as emotional support through home visitation and counselling.
Farmers who need assistance can visit the Vinnies Care and Support Centre at 22 Bowral Road, Mittagong, (10am-2pm Friday) or 502A Argyle St, Moss Vale (10am-2pm Tuesday to Thursday), or call 0437 509 449.
