Mr Smith said he had been heartened by conversations with many local residents who shared his passion for restoring the line as a heritage transport railway.
“This project will greatly revitalise the Rail Museum, expand its offerings to include the panoramic views of Southern Highlands, as well as providing access to the railway heritage icon ‘Big Hill Cutting’ which is currently inaccessible to the community.
“Revitalising the Picton-Mittagong Loop will create local jobs, help attract tourists to our beautiful region, and create a wonderful activity that families can do together. Personally, I would love to be able to take my kids on a steam train journey across this region, and show them what makes it so special.”
Mr Smith encouraged all community members to sign the petition, which would be presented to the NSW Government.
“I firmly believe that if we all come together for this great opportunity for our region, then we will be able to make this boon for local tourism, jobs and families happen. So, let’s get it done Wollondilly.”
