Maizy Evans recently competed in the XCC NSW State Championships and the XCO State Championships in mountain biking.
Maizy placed second in the XCC competition and placed third in the XCO.
“The girls I was racing, I’d raced before and was doubting myself to place at all,” Maizy said.
“I don’t usually place very high against them so it felt pretty good to come in second against these girls who are extremely fast.”
After her second placing in the XCC State Championship Maizy’s confidence grew.
“My confidence for the Sunday race got a nice boost,” she said.
Next year Maizy will be moving up to the under 17s and she’s aiming for the top spot.
“I’ll be aiming for a first,” she said.
“I’ve always been in the under 15s, so this is my first ever category move.
“It’s definitely going to be tougher, the training I’ll be doing will be much more intense because I want that top spot.”
Maizy also recently received a scholarship with the Illawarra Academy of Sport for cycling.
These are the results for Southern Highlands riders who competed in the championships.
