Spending a majority of his basketball career around the Moss Vale Magic, Mark Glenn had a knee injury that took the game of basketball away from him for a number of years.
When Mark returned to the game he loved, he snapped both Achilles in separate incidents.
Many would walk away from the game but Mark regained strength by taking up cycling and returned with a fresh outlook.
In a local Lebron James like move, Mark wanted to continue playing the game of basketball so he could share the court with his child.
“The reason I came back to the game was to play with my son,” Mark said.
“I’ve managed to get back to playing form over the past couple of years but I’m slowly moving into the retirement phase now.”
No one can beat Father Time, so Mark began to look into other avenues in basketball.
“The past three years, I’ve been an assistant coach for the juniors,” Mark said.
“With timing commitments, I couldn’t take a head coaching job.”
Time passed and Mark continued to learn under his assistant coach role.
Rick Davies, coach of the Under 18s thought it was time for Mark to step up.
“Rick and I had a conversation about what a head coaching role might look like,” Mark said.
“Hearing Kevin Campbell, (coach of the Youth League) maybe having a year off, we spoke about what a change up in coaching would look like.
Rick put in an application for the under 18s and Mark applied in for the the Youth League.
“The board approved us both as coaches,” Mark said.
“We had the intention to train both squads as one,”
“We made it a transitional period for the players so they could go from the under 18 team, to the Youth League with the hope they would go onto State league.”
With the season fast approaching, Mark knows where his teams mind frame is at.
“They want to win it all,” he said.
“The pieces are there to be really competitive in division two but the main goal is that we continue to put things in place so in the coming years, we can see a benefit in future players.
“Our aim is to continue building on whats already being built here at Moss Vale and that’s to be competitive.”
