The under-14 competition for girls in the Illawarra, South Coast,Shoalhaven, Southern Highlands, South East and ACT continued over the weekend in the Highlands.
Southern Highlands players are in both the Shoalhaven and Illawarra Flames sides.
The first round, on December 2, was also held in the Southern Highlands, with the competition to continue in February next year.
Matches are played in a T20 format and provide an opportunity to develop skills and familiarise girls with more advanced aspects of cricket, with specialist coaches on hand to guide and mentor each player.
There were two games played in round two, at Eridge Park and Centennial Oval.
In the morning, Shoalhaven was up against the South Coast, while Illawarra took on the ACT.
Shoalhaven won the toss in its match and gave South Coast first use of the crease.
They finished at 5-107.
Highlanders Matilda Speerin finished with 0-10 off two overs and Amelia De Haan took 0-2 off one over.
Annalee Watson was Shoalhaven’s wicketkeeper.
In response, Shoalhaven was 5-115, with Watson contributing 14 runs and De Haan two.
In the other game, Illawarra, which included Highlanders Sophie Taufel, Hilary Swan and Ava Maiden, batted first.

In response the ACT finished with 110 runs.
Maiden was the best of the Highlands bowlers with 0-16 off two overs. Bella Hawk was Shoalhaven’s best bowler with 2-10.
Two more games were played in the afternoon with Shoalhaven taking on the Flames.
Shoalhaven batted first, with Speerin finishing unbeaten on six.
Watson also scored six runs and De Hann finished with one run.
For the Flames, Taufel finished with figures of 0-9, Swan was 0-15 and Maiden was 0-10.
It was then Illawarra’s turn at the crease.
Swan was the top scorer with 14 runs. Taufel finished with six runs and Maiden with one.
For Shoalhaven, Watson finished with figures of 0-6 off two overs, De Hann finished with 0-7 off two and Speerin was 0-9 from one.
Rain then interrupted the match and Shoalhaven was awarded the win based on the Duckworth-Lewis system.
The Shoalhaven side has now won three of its four games.
The Thunder Cup is the brainchild of Cricket NSW’s coach and talent specialist Steve Davies, with support from the Greater Illawarra Cricket Zone, Cricket ACT and experienced local coaches and team managers.
