The new roundabout at the intersection of the Illawarra Highway and Sheepwash Road near Burrawang will be built as part of essential safety improvements being funded by the NSW government.
Goulburn MP Pru Goward said the roundabout would reduce the risk and severity of road crashes.
“In the five years to July 2015, there were nine crashes at the intersection, resulting in 23 injuries,” Ms Goward said.
“There have been a number of deaths and other bad accidents at this intersection – the NSW government’s improvements will keep us safer on this vital road,” she said.
The safety improvement work will be carried out in stages to reduce the impact to motorists and are expected to be completed by late 2019, weather permitting.
Motorists will be advised of changed traffic conditions as part of the work.
“The most appropriate option for this intersection is a roundabout as it will improve safety for motorists, maintain traffic flow, and be cost effective to build and easy to maintain,” Ms Goward said.
