Eleven students graduated at the ceremony, surrounded by friends and family at the event held at Dormie House in Moss Vale.
Members of the community including Mayor Duncan Gair attended the graduation, officiated by UOW’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Inclusion and Outreach) Professor Paul Chandler.
Moss Vale and Rural Chamber of Commerce President Brigid Kennedy was the guest speaker, addressing the 80 guests on the variety of careers emerging in the Southern Highlands available to graduates, who completed Bachelor of Commerce, Bachelor of Arts, and Master of Teaching degrees.
Ms Kennedy shared highlights from her long career as a business owner, being involved with Chambers of Commerce and working with government and community organisations.
“Be prepared to take risks – there is no such thing a failure as you will continue to learn from every initiative you take,” Ms Kennedy said.
In delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of students Jade Rein who graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce, took up the challenge.
“Next time something feels impossible or daunting, just remember back to the start of your university journey – remember we have felt that way before.
“We didn’t let that defeat us then, and can continue to overcome any new challenges we put our minds to.”
If you are thinking of taking up the challenge of study in 2019, it’s not too late to apply to the UOW Southern Highlands campus.
