In B Grade an understrength Horton’s Heroes drew 4-4 with Dolphins.
The Dolphins took an early 2-1 lead at the end of the first quarter but the Heroes came back with a solid 2-0 performance in the second period, to take a 3-2 lead at half time.
Dolphins kept coming at Horton’s Heroes and their persistence paid off, as they levelled at 3-3 at the end of the third period.
The Dolphins kept up the pressure and it paid off with a goal to Hamish Ta-Amo that appeared to have the match sealed for them.
The Horton’s Heroes refused to give in as they came back solidly with a good goal and drew the match with very little time left on the clock.
The strong Mariners crew had a 9-5 win over Oxley Gold.
It was the experience of the Mariners against the youthful enthusiasm of the Oxley Gold side.
The Mariners asserted themselves from the start, as they found the back of the net three times to Oxley Gold’s one.
The young Oxley side came back in the second period to outscore the Mariners 2-1 leading up to halftime, to have the match poised at 4-3 with the Mariners holding the edge.
The Mariners captain got the ship in order for the third period, as they piled on three unanswered goals to take the game into safer waters.
The Oxley Gold side came back to score two more goals in the last period matching the Mariner’s two but the ship had sailed.
Oxley Blue 4 defeated Polar Bears 3, in what was a close match both on the score sheet and in the water.
Oxley Blue and Polar Bears held each other scoreless in the first period despite each team having a number of scoring opportunities.
Oxley took a single goal lead into half-time, which was a good reflection of the game.
The Oxley Blue team kept the momentum going, as they scored two more goals before the Polar Bears got on the scoreboard with a late third period goal.
Oxley Blue was playing well but the Polar Bears weren’t about to concede, as they came back in the final period to lock the game up at 3-3.
With very little time remaining the Oxley team embarked on a final attack in which Ben Morton scored the winning goal and his second for the match.
The Polar Bears had a final shot in the closing seconds that was blocked by the Oxley goalkeeper, much to his team’s delight.
In A Grade Sharks defeated Polar Bears 6-3.

The Dolphins had a well controlled 7-3 win over the Mariners.
The Dolphins and Mariners shared the first quarter honours at one goal each.
This was as close as the match got for the Mariners with the Dolphins setting sail on a course of relentless pressure that saw them net two goals in each of the following three quarters.
The Dolphins were restricted to one goal in the second period but were still in the match, behind 3-2 at halftime.
Dolphins surged ahead with two unanswered goals in the third period to give them a comfortable 5-2 lead going into the last period.
The Dolphins looked comfortable as they scored two more goals to Mariners’ one for the final 7-3 result.
This was the last competition round before the Christmas break.
Next week will be a social round against Wollongong teams who will make their way to the Highlands.
