Highlands athletes again proved they have plenty of talent on the weekend- winning more than 100 medals at the Zone Championships.

Held at Beaton Park, Wollongong, the Bowral Little Athletics Club finished with 103 medals, a huge improvement from the 67 it won at last year’s carnival.
Of the 103 medals, 32 were gold, 33 silver and 38 bronze.
The girls led the way, with Ruby Blake and Amalie Borthwick each winning four events and Pearl Stravoskoufis winning three.

The club enhanced its reputation as a long jump powerhouse by winning the event in every boys age division from the under-8s through to the under-11s.
Gold medals were won by the following athletes:
- Matthew Arregui: under-11 long jump
- Evie Blake: under-8 700m
- Ruby Blake: under-10 100m, 400m, 800m, long jump
- Amalie Borthwick: under-13 800m, 1500m, 3000m, shotput
- Xanthe Cristian: under-12 1500m walk
- Matthew Elliott: under-17 javelin
- Jake Greenough: under-9 long jump
- Benji Lee-Billinghurst: under-11 high jump
- Georgie Marks: under-10 discus
- Isaac Pemberton: under-10 60m hurdles, long jump
- Isaac Reko: under-8 60m hurdles, long jump
- Fletcher Reynolds: under-8 discus
- Kevin Reynolds: under-10 discus
- Brydie Schofield: under-8 400m, long jump
- Bela Seville: under-13 400m
- Lilea Seville: under-10 1100m walk
- Jasmine Shakeshaft: under-15 triple jump
- Holly Speechley: under-11 triple jump
- Pearl Stravoskoufis: under-9 60m hurdles, high jump, 70m
- Charlotte Withers: under-10 70m
- Eva Yorke: under-9 200m
Bowral Little Athletics president Angelo Stravoskoufis said they expected about 40-45 athletes to qualify for Regionals in Griffith in early February.
“An indication of how far the club has come in the last couple of years is that we only had 22 children to go Zone two years ago, so the sport has clearly experienced a resurgence in the Highlands over that period,” he said.
The Little Athletics season continues through to mid-March.
