About 11.30pm on Friday, 30 November 2018, police attended a carpark in Mittagong and spoke to a small group of males standing near a vehicle.
Police located several pellets in a container near the vehicle.
Police subsequently searched the vehicle and allegedly located an air rifle which looked similar to an automatic assault rifle on the passenger side of the vehicle.
Police also located an air pistol under the driver’s seat.
Police seized the two firearms and spoke with a 24-year-old man from Bowral at the scene.
An examination of the seized rifle and pistol indicated they both could be allegedly used to fire pellets.

“The offences for possessing a pistol or prohibited firearm each carry a maximum of 14 years imprisonment,” Superintendent Schilt said.
“This also includes an air gun which can propel, or is designed to propel, a projectile by means of any gas or mixture of gases, including air, by means of a spring, and is operated or designed for operation by means of a trigger or similar device.”
“With the ability to purchase these items online, police urge the public that before you go onto any website or purchase a gun, make inquiries with licensing police or the firearms registry to make sure it is legal. Our message is, don't buy until you do the checks.”
