The dedicated Exeter resident took her first step in becoming a palliative care volunteer on March 4, 2008 and over the past 10 years said she gained valuable insight into life and death from the patients she supports.
“I count it as a privilege to be invited into their world at this very sad and personal time in their lives,” Ms Harris said.
Ms Harris makes visits to patients at least once a week, often taking them to appointments, shopping or even just out to a cafe.
“My role is to listen, that may be to memories or concerns and challenges they face and to facilitate where, what they want and need,” she said.
South Western Sydney Local Health District palliative care volunteer coordinator Arlene Roache thanked Ms Harris for her outstanding service.
“Lynn is a valuable part of our volunteer team and her efforts on behalf of the patients are greatly appreciated,” Ms Roache said.
