On November 19, the bus stopped at Aurora Southern Highlands Steiner School with author and philosopher Damon Young on board.
Mr Young chatted with the young readers who asked questions about his children’s books and also learned some writing tips from an informal workshop.
Now in its fifth year, Russ the Story Bus is part of a long-term Sydney Writers’ Festival strategy to introduce young readers to authors and illustrators, to inspire and help young readers form their own aspirations for the future.
The bus was transformed in 2014 into a bright and colourful creative space decked out with bookshelves full of the latest children’s books and spots for kids to read and listen to stories. While the exterior is designed each year by one of Australia’s best children’s book illustrators.
