Petbarn Mittagong and Wellness Natural Pet Food have teamed up to launch ‘Dinners On Us’, a pet food drive that donates food to animals in need when Southern Highlands locals buy a delicious meal for their own four-legged friend.
With 42 cats and dogs at the Golden Oldies shelter, Gina Fallon is looking for all the help possible.
“We hope to get as much food as possible with Christmas on the way,” Ms Fallon said.
“People go on holiday over Christmas and put their animals in the pound, it’s not good for the animal,” she said.
When purchasing a bag Wellness pet food from Petbarn or City Farmers until November 30, Wellness Natural Pet Food will donate a days’ worth of Wellness Healthy Balance dog or cat food to nominated animal shelters across Australia.
Petbarn Mittagong manager, Sean McKinley, said he was excited to be taking part in the initiative.
“We are encouraging the Southern Highlands community to choose Wellness to feed their furry family member and by doing so, to help support the shelters who care for animals who don’t have a home of their own yet,” Mr McKinley said.
“By giving the gift of Wellness, the Southern Highlands community will be making a valued contribution towards providing food for the pets who need it most, with aims to reach a total of 38,000 meals,” he said.
Greencross Vets chief veterinarian, Dr Rachel Chay recognised how vital the support from both Petbarn and Wellness is, benefiting hundreds of animals across Australia who are currently waiting for the forever homes.
"Increasing numbers of animals presenting to pet shelters is a serious issue. It is important we support these groups to help ensure that these animals receive the proper nutrition they require,” Dr Chay said.
“While many animals in shelters are lucky enough to find their forever homes, new animals are continually filling those empty cages. Donations made possible by this initiative will help keep those pets happy and healthy by giving them the natural, balanced nutrition they need to support their overall wellbeing,” she said.
Through this donation scheme, Southern Highlands residents will be helping local shelter Golden Oldies Animal Rescue.
To contribute to the donation, visit www.petbarn.com.au and make your Wellness purchase from now until November 30 and give a meal to an animal in need.
