The unsolicited email comes with a RMS letterhead and looks authentic. It urges the receiver to click on an attachment so a customer account statement can be viewed.
In a message on its Facebook the RMS said the public needed to know that this message was a scam and that the attachment should not be clicked on, nor should any personal details be provided.
It added that Roads and Maritime Services did not send unprompted generic emails of this nature. The agency is investigating the matter and is working with authorities.
