The day of golf and evening event raised around $7000 for sepsis awareness and to help other quad amputees.
The event was emceed by motivational speaker, athlete and author Mike Rolls, whose own experience as a double amputee led to his own advocacy efforts.
Korina Valentine was hospitalised in April 2015 with a bacterial infection so severe, it led to the amputation of her arms below the elbow, one leg near her hip and the other leg below her knee, as well as damage to her face and skin.
Korina’s husband, Daniel Valentine, said the charity had initially been established to help support their family through the initial transition and challenges that came with it.
However, more recently, the organisation has been able to refocus their efforts and help others that have gone through similar experiences.
“We set it up to start with to help our family when Korina fell ill, but once we got in a good position, we’ve now been able to help others,” Mr Valentine said.
This year, Reaching 4 Korina was able to purchase a $4000 unit for a Sydney rehab hospital to help other amputees learn to use their new prosthetic limbs.

“This is the first unit that can be taken home to train with, rather than having to travel back and forth to Sydney,” Mr Valentine said.
The charity has also been able to help the community’s broader understanding around sepsis, a topic that Mr Valentine said was lagging behind.
“At the moment, there’s nothing really happening with sepsis awareness. We work with the Australian Sepsis Network and we’re trying to push it from a community-based perspective,” Mr Valentine said.
“It really needs more recognition and fortunately the funds from the community have given us access to a lot of information we hope to share,” he said.
The golf day was the last fundraising event for this year, while the charity is gearing up for a trivia night in the first half of 2019.
