Winning the toss and electing to bat first, Highlands captain Ravi Wikramanayake (23) and James Morton (61) got the home team off to a great start with an opening partnership of 41 before Wikramanayake was caught.
Another quick wicket was lost before Ben Tucker (40) joined Morton and they took the score to 115 before Tucker was dismissed.
The Highlands lost another couple of quick wickets before Morton, who showed great concentration and determination, was out in controversial circumstances.
Blake Denny scored a quick 31 with the Highlands finishing at 8 -198 off their 50 overs.
Shoalhaven lost a early wicket when Blake Denney and Morton combined.

Mason King then claimed another quick wicket to have Shoalhaven at 2-23.
Representative cricket newcomer Nick Gardner then stepped up and claimed two wickets while Fionn Parker chipped in with a wicket and Shoalhaven was struggling at 5-64.
A 99 run partnership swung the game back into Shoalhaven’s favour before Gardner was reintroduced into the attack and claimed three quick wicket to give him 5-33 off his 10 overs.
This left Shoalhaven needing 15 off the last three overs but Gardner and Denney restricted them to just four runs off the last three overs
The Highlands next match will be on November 18 against the South Coast, before they face Illawarra in round three.
