The 2018 Bowral Classic on the weekend of October 20 and 21 is Bicycling Australia’s third cycling event for the Southern Highlands and fifth overall.
In April this year organisers took the concept interstate holding the successful Clare Classic in South Australia, then in August the inaugural Noosa Classic in Queensland.
Already multi-award winning and recently nominated for two more major industry gongs, the company’s signature event, the Bowral Classic, has been warmly embraced by the cycling public and become an iconic must-ride fixture on the sporting calendar.
More than 3000 riders have registered for the third annual Bowral Classic - an extraordinary one third of them signing for the ultimate challenge, the 175km Maxi-Classic course.
The event is famous for being all-encompassing with many riders delighted to be gearing up for the 35km social classic.
With locals and businesses strongly backing the event and preparing to again welcome the thousands of visiting cyclists and their families to the region, the Southern Highlands is buzzing in anticipation of what has become one of its major annual drawcards.
Locals are encouraged to join the festival atmosphere and cheer the riders along, both at the start line early on Sunday October 21 and out on the courses though the morning.
Riders will depart Bowral’s Bong Bong Street starting in waves from 6am.
Bong Bong street will be closed to through traffic with diversions in place from late Saturday night but no significant traffic delays are expected during the event.
Locals are asked to keep watch for cyclists, drive with extra caution over the weekend of October 20 and 21, and follow instructions from the many event volunteers on course during the day.
For full details on this check the Community Information tab on the event website.
Eridge Park just out of Bowral will again be home to the Bowral Classic event village.
There’s a very significant reason thousands choose to ride the Bowral Classic each year and that’s the charity aspect.
To date riders of the event have generated more than $250,000 via the successful “You Decide, You Choose” charity strategy.
This unique approach to fundraising gives the power and flexibility back to our riders and we urge all participants to work hard in raising those much-needed funds right through until event day.
