NSW RFS Commissioner Shane Fitzsimmons said volunteers competed across the weekend in a series of simulated emergency situations where their skills and equipment were put to the test.
Six firies from Alpine/Aylmerton Rural Fire Service participated and came away with second place in the ‘Along the Track’ scenario which involved accessing a fire across an active rail corridor.

RFS volunteer Kerrie-Ann Johnson said it was a solid effort for the team who attended the event for the first time.
“This was our first time attending the championship and it was a great experience. We are looking forward to training hard for the next championship in Illawarra in 2020,” Ms Johnson said.
Scenarios ranged from simulated motor vehicle accidents to bush, grass and structure fires.
“All competing teams demonstrated their training, dedication and professionalism,” Commissioner Fitzsimmons said.
“Thank you to the volunteers competing who have travelled from all around NSW and those working behind the scenes to make this year’s State Championships another successful event,” he said.
