The skatepark received $416,340 after a campaign by a year 8 student at Moss Vale High School and his friends gained traction.
Tyson Robb spearheaded the effort after he noticed the danger of the temporary ramps and the increasing popularity of the park.
Tyson and his friends went door-to-door in the community to collect signatures, even garnering support from Member for Goulburn, Pru Goward.
“It was a lot of hard work but will definitely be worth it in the end,” Tyson said.
“I found out from a friend of my Mum’s who works on council and got to tell my friends on the bus the next day, we were all really excited,” he said.
Ms Goward offered her congratulations to Tyson and his friends when the announcement was made.
“This project is thanks to the kids of Bundanoon. The extension will provide a much-needed renovation to the current skatepark and transform a well-used facility into something that our younger residents have been crying out for. Well done kids!" she said.
The project was funded as part of round 2 of the Stronger Country Communities Fund and follows earlier announcements for the Bowral Blacks, Berrima Marketplace Park and Welby Garden Centre.
Wingecarribee Shire Mayor Ken Halstead said this latest round of grants was evidence of the state government’s confidence in the shire to deliver major infrastructure projects of community significance.
“Council is delighted with this latest announcement and I would also acknowledge the council staff and community groups who worked together on these applications for getting them over the line,” he said.
