“In designing the beer we wanted to create a different style which would be closest to a Belgian golden ale but it is really a specialty beer, on the sweeter side with a rich colour,” Mr Newman said.

“To make this beer we wanted it not to be a marketing ploy but an actual beer with tulips in it. After all hops are a flower and every beer has hops in it.”

“The first thing that we had to do, was think about how we could flavour the beer with tulips, so we went out and picked up some tulips and after a few small-scale experiments, we figured out how to incorporate them.”

The team discovered it was better to dehydrate the tulips, so they bought 30 bouquets.

The team placed them in the dehydrators, dried them, then added them as to a late-edition in its kettle.

“The tulips have come out in the flavour profile of the beer quite prominently.  It tastes sort of like a flower shop smells,” he said.

Eden Brewery will make a batch of more than 2000 bottles only for this season.

Flower Flower has opened a second store at Springetts Arcade in Bowral. Principal designer Sarah Johanson said expanding the business was a natural progression. “I don’t know what’s growing faster; us or the flowers,” she said. The principal designer said the Bowral business has had “record trading” in its first two weeks, and Ms Johanson has employed two people with the view to employ more in the future. Ms Johanson said while there was a change in location, the customer service would remain the same.

Florists will carry flowers out to the car for customers, and offer customers a picture of their flowers while they are being made. Flower Flower Mittagong is undergoing renovations and will re-open soon.

Ray White Mittagong principal Rick Mooney has won the Alan White Elite Performer award for the second year in a row. 

The award is open to Ray White real estate agents, and is based on commission.

“It’s a lot of phone calls, persistence and consistency,” Mr Mooney said.
