Our purpose-built hospital will deliver state-of-the-art facilities, and with new models of care, the time patients spend in hospital will decrease. This means additional beds available and more patients will have access to a range of both inpatient and outpatient health services. I am excited about our new clinical services building and encourage you to take the time to offer your feedback on the planning application which is on the NSW Department of Planning website. 

It is lovely to enjoy some warmer weather and the emergence of beautiful tulips which give our town so much stunning spring colour. Unfortunately, the increase in pollen in spring often sparks a seasonal rise in hay fever and asthma. Anyone who suffers from allergies should see their GP about proactively managing their symptoms. I also encourage asthma sufferers to ensure they have an action plan and to discuss this with their GP.

The hospital marked Multicultural Health Week earlier this month with cultural festivities to highlight this year’s theme of health literacy “talk, listen, ask - for better health”. The theme aims to raise health workers’ awareness of the importance of helping people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds understand health care and improve their access to it. It was wonderful to see our staff dressed in their national costume and enjoying a feast of fabulous cuisines from across the world.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone who has sought assistance from their GP rather than the hospital’s emergency department during the cold and flu season. Emergency Department staff are always there to help, but It is important for the community to remember that emergency departments are for emergencies only.
