The two-stage project will include installation of new furniture as well as acquiring new playground equipment such as an in-ground trampoline and an inclusive orbit carousel funded through an earlier grant from the NSW Government Community Building Partnership.

The playground upgrade has been championed by the Rotary Club of Berrima, which has already begun implementing the project that will result in brand new facilities with an emphasis on disability inclusivity. 

President of the Rotary Club of Berrima Lyndall McGrath said the club had plans to purchase a ‘macro spacenet’, ‘tyre dino swing’ and concrete paths for the park's subsequent stages. 

“It is evident that tourist traffic has increased with more and more children using Marketplace Park as a place to have some fun, stretch their legs or use the toilets or playground. These upgrades are not only important for the local community but also those who visit,” Ms McGrath said. 

Member for Goulburn Pru Goward attended the playground site earlier this year when the project was conceptualised. Ms Goward offered her congratulations on the recent funding announcement.

“Great work has already been done on this facility thanks to the Rotary Club of Berrima. This is a project for a very well-loved part of the Highlands and the funding will assist in making this well-used park even more fantastic for all to enjoy,” Ms Goward said. 

“I’m looking forward to seeing the park with facilities for all abilities in the village’s centre, we are already seeing bus-loads of children diverting their trips to stop here and play,” she said.
