With three teams in action at The Oaks, it was the 14Bs and the under-15/16 sides that finished the season as premiers.
The under-14s produced a strong performance against Camden Blue to win 30-4.
Coach and junior Lions secretary Billy Hayward said it was the team’s first title and the first international title for Mittagong since 2005, which was followed by another one later in the day.
“It was a fantastic result for the club. The boys put in a very dominant and very clinical performance,” he said.
“They worked hard all year.”
Ethan Youkhana was awarded player of the match while Raiden Crowe was named Group 6 player of the year.
The Lions were always in front and led 22-0 at the break before going on to score another eight points in the second half.
It was a much tighter affair in the under-15/16 game and the match could easily have gone into extra time.
The Lions won the premiership 14-12 against minor premiers Appin.
The Dogs had a chance to level the score in the dying minutes of the match through a penalty goal but were unable to convert the opportunity.
Mittagong had more awards success in this match with Jasper Murphy named man of the match and Liam Bayliss crowned Group 6 player of the year.
Hayward said this Lions side had played in three previous grand finals and finished runners up each time.
But with another chance at winning the title, Mittagong didn’t let this chance slip and were “fourth time lucky”.
The under-16As came up against the undefeated minor premiers Narellan Jets.
It was a strong performance from the Lions but in the end the Jets took home the title of premiers with a 28-10 victory.
“We were the underdogs going into the match but the boys put their best performance in all year,” Hayward said. The score was 10-6 at halftime and the game remained in the balance early in the second half but Hayward said in the end “Narellan’s class” proved too much for the Highlands side.
“They’ve [Narellan] got a lot of talented players. 28-10 didn’t really reflect how close the game was.”
On Sunday, Moss Vale under-11 Dragons faced Warragamba Wombats in their grand final match.
