The Moss Vale Magic player was part of the AUSA Hoops AAU tour in July.
He and the others on the tour got the chance to play in AAU games in the States on the three-week tour and show off their skills to American college scouts.
“They take it so much more seriously over there,” Tristan said.
While he has made the step up to youth grade this year for the Magic, Tristan said basketball over in America was another level again.
“It’s so much quicker. The way they play is totally different and it was good to see how they did it.
“There’s a lot of ball movement. You have to keep the ball moving or they’ll take it off you. And you’ve got to box them out otherwise they’ll come over the top and dunk on you.”
As well as playing AAU matches, there were plenty of team training sessions to help players develop their skills.
Tristan said they often received some individual feedback from coaches to identify their strengths and weaknesses, what they could show to coaches and what they could work on.
Tristan enjoyed plenty of court time in the AAU games and started in a few.
‘I think I was one of the most played people so that was good.”
Off the court, Tristan also had some time to do some sightseeing.
He visited AT&T stadium- home of the Dallas Cowboys, a water park, plenty of restaurants including IHOP and his favourite, Walmart.
“It was really fun.”
Glenn got involved with the tour through a friend he played with in the Christian School National Games for the past two years.
His friend had previously been on the tour and recommended it to him.
Tristan sent a highlights reel in and then earlier this year, he received an email asking if he wanted to be part of the tour.
Now back in Australia and with the Moss Vale Magic representative season at an end, Tristan said he would continue to play in the local league and put in “a lot of training”.
He said his focus for training ahead of next year would be strength and conditioning.
“[My] shooting’s there, dribbling, rebounding and all that stuff. It’s just being able to play at a fast pace for the entire game.”
Tristan said he would like to attend the same tour next year.
“But if the opportunity arises to go to a different one before then, then yeah I’ll jump on that.”
